Following the clean eating lifestyle means that you are probably eating at least every 2 to 3 hours. Unless you work from home or are a stay-at-home parent, packing a cooler is probably not necessary. However, for those who have busy schedules, packing a cooler full of snacks and meals can be a huge benefit.

Lately, I've been curious about the benefits of coconut oil. If you browse other health sites (particularly sites on paleo diets), chances are you may come across the topic of using coconut oil a lot. It has been used for generations in tropical places as a primary source of fat. It was even widely used in the United States, however, with more people becoming aware of the dangers of saturated fat, coconut oil fell into the bad fat category as well.

I know my last few posts have been milk related but I came across a good article which questions what is the best to drink: soy, cow's milk, raw milk, or fermented milk (kefir.) I've read so many times that regular cow's milk (homogenized and pasteurized) is not healthy to drink due to the hormones cow's are injected with as well as the percentage of pus that is allowed.
Soy milk isn't much better as most brands are full of sugar. Fortunately there are much better and healthier alternatives to the popular cow's milk and soy milk. These include:
Raw milk: not homogenized or pasteurized; contains living bacteria cultures that enhance digestion.
Fermented raw milk (kefir): a living, predigested, nutritionally superior beverage.

This blog talks a lot about food so today I thought I'd talk about the topic of digestion. Poor digestion can lead to a lot of problems so knowing some of the foods that may help digestion can be beneficial.
Digestion is the mechanical and chemical breaking down of food into smaller components, to a form that can be absorbed, for instance, by a blood stream. [Source: Wikipedia]
Problems that Come from Poor Digestion
The common symptoms of poor digestion can include constipation, bloating, gas, diarrhea, and heartburn. Other issues that can occur include:
- Weakening immune system
- Skin disorders
- Inflammation
- Overgrowth of yeast (Candida albicans)
- Food allergies & sensitivities
- Autoimmune disorders
- Nausea
Foods that Help Digestion
There are some food and beverages that help in digestion. I've always heard that drinking hot tea helps which is why it is good to drink after a meal. Here are several others:
- Pineapple
- Ginger
- Peppermint
- Mineral water
- Olive oil
- Flax seed oil
- Papaya
- Garlic
Eating foods high in fiber also help with digestion. Another popular thing to do is consume foods which contain probiotics. Probiotics are known as the "good bacteria" which helps regulate the digestive system. Dairy products often contain probiotics. Also, drinking plenty of water helps to regulate digestion.
Cut Back on Meat Consumption
I've also read that eating meat is more difficult for the body to digest. The body must produce more acid secretion by the stomach's parietal cells, and more active enzyme secretion by the pancreas. However, this doesn't mean that meat should be avoided.
